Project Summary


Sunrise Dam is a gold mine located near Laverton in Western Australia. The mine and nearby village are powered by a diesel/gas hybrid power station.

Expansion 8 required the upgrade of the existing station D to increase capacity by adding a new 4MW CAT engine, piping, ventilation, cooling and exhaust. A new Switchroom was installed, along with transmission lines and buried services.

Qetra was contracted to complete the entire scope of the project from offsite fabrication and assembly, through to on site installation, including during shutdowns and cutovers, and complete commissioning works.

Qetra’s scope of work included:

  • Civils – Excavation, buried services, concrete and precast
  • Structural – Fabrication and installation
  • Mechanical – Pumps, radiators and engine
  • Piping – Fabrication and installation of gas, water and oil piping
  • HV – Installation and terminations
  • Transmission lines – Cutover to existing
  • Heavy lift – Switchroom & engine installation
  • Commissioning
